About the Parish of St Paraskevi

photo 4On 23 April 1986 His Eminence Archbishop Stylianos, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia gave his blessing for the foundation of the Parish of St Paraskevi for the residents of the Northern Suburbs of Brisbane. The appointed Parish Committee commenced fundraising and purchased the property at 241 Church Road Taigum. Plans for a beautiful Byzantine style Church were completed in 1991 and the church was gradually built on the property in stages. It was officially opened on 10 December 1995. Since January 1987 the Parish has been conducting on an annual basis the Blessing of the Waters ceremony and festival at Redcliffe with the local community in attendance. Greek Affair festivals have been conducted on the church property. These festivals which are open to all the community have given people the opportunity to appreciate our church and its traditions, our heritage, culture and family life. St John’s Community Care, an activity of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia was established in 1997 .Multicultural morning teas are being conducted once a month.
